Gargantua is a villain from Marvel Comics. A former human turned rampaging giant monster, he would be an enemy of the Defenders and SHIELD.

Gargantua is the botched result of an experiment by SHIELD to create superhuman enforcers, named "Project: Olympus" (which had ultimately went rogue and decided to destroy superheroes altogether). Instead of creating the perfect soldier it intended, the experiment permanently transformed Gargantua into a giant with violent, aggressive reasoning (akin to a legendary ogre) and he went on a rampage that cost fifty lives before SHIELD could finally capture him.
Gargantua was held in SHIELD custody for three years until members of the Secret Empire broke him free, resulting in him doing battle with the Defenders as he went on another destructive rampage, this time across New York, killing four SHIELD agents and inflicting massive amounts of property damage. He even went as far as threatening to devour the Defenders before they worked together to defeat the monster, who was once again put in SHIELD custody.
This would not last long however and soon the Secret Empire once again freed Gargantua and he started to become a regular enforcer of other villains, as well as a rampaging monster in his own right.
