Fujin is a powerful elemental god of wind in the Mortal Kombat universe. First appearing in Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, he has only made a few appearances since.
History[]
Original timeline[]
Fujin is one of the few remaining gods following the War of the Heavens between the Elder Gods and Shinnok. When Shinnok attempted to invade the realms during the events of Mortal Kombat 4, Fujin fought alongside Raiden and the champions of Earthrealm to defeat the dark god and send him back to the Netherrealm. After this victory, Raiden was granted Elder God status and Fujin replaced him as the guardian deity of Earthrealm. His time as guardian would not last as Raiden relinquished his status years later to battle the threat of the Deadly Alliance.
Following the return of Onaga and with the threat of Armageddon looming, Fujin joined the Forces of Light in defence of the realms. His main focus, however, was Raiden, who had seemingly been corrupted following his resurrection and was killing many innocents in the name of protecting Earthrealm.
Fujin also participated in the Battle of Armageddon in Edenia, joining the Forces of Light. He was killed along with all the other kombatants.
Alternate timeline[]
In the altered timeline created by Raiden's interference with past events, Fujin joins Raiden and the forces of Earthrealm in protecting their world from the onslaught of Shinnok. The wind god stands with Raiden as they try to prevent Shinnok's forces from seizing the Sky Temple and corrupting the Jinsei, Earthrealm's life source. The two deities were almost defeated until Johnny Cage saved them at the last minute and beat Shinnok.
Years later, Fujin, Nightwolf and Shang Tsung were cast into the Void by Cetrion. It was only after Liu Kang defeated Kronika that they were released, now aware of the extent of Kronika's plot and how to ensure its best outcome by finding Kronika's Crown, which had been destroyed along with Kronika during Liu Kang's battle with her. Without the crown, Liu Kang could not control the Hourglass, and so Fujin, Nightwolf and Shang Tsung were sent back to an earlier point in time to recover the crown.
Unfortunately, Fujin, Shang Tsung and Nightwolf arrived at the time of Kitana’s ascension to the throne of Kahn, where their presences were noticed by the Kollector, alerting Kronika’s awareness of their return. After Nightwolf defeated Kollector, while both Fujin and Shang Tsung killed the beasts which Kollector released, the three warriors manage to escape the Koliseum while the crowds were cheering on Kitana Kahn’s victory.
While devising a plan to defeat Cetrion before securing Kronika's Crown, Fujin and Nightwolf initially rejected Shang Tsung’s idea about reviving Sindel from her revenant state, remembering what she did back in Shao Kahn’s past invasion of Earthrealm whereas Nightwolf, including Sindel herself were amongst the casualties. However, he and Nightwolf had no choice to follow the sorcerer’s plan, starting with gathering enough Jinsei waters from a recently compromised Sky Temple, then capture Revenant Sindel in the Netherrealm. Fujin and his allies managed to dispose Frost’s new Cyber Lin Kuei and sent Geras to the Chaosrealm. While infiltrating Netherrealm, they are caught by revenants Liu Kang, Kitana and Nightwolf, when the latter’s living younger counterpart sensed him nearby. Imprisoned at Shinnok’s Bone Temple, guarded by revenants Nightwolf and Sindel, Fujin woke up Shang Tsung and Nightwolf. Just as Nightwolf managed to break free himself, he freed Fujin and Shang Tsung as well, proceeding with their mission to capture Sindel. When Shang Tsung absorbed revenant Nightwolf’s soul and killing him for fatally injuring the former, Fujin expressed his disdain to the younger Nightwolf, but they had no choice but to let it be as they still needed the sorcerer in their quest.
Once Sindel was captured and placed in a coffin, Fujin and his allies acquired assistance from Sheeva. With Sheeva’s guidance, Fujin and his allies ventured through the Dead Pool to access the Soul Chamber. However, they were encountered by Erron Black, Baraka and a horde of Tarkatan warriors. Despite a minor setback after Shang Tsung accidentally pushed a Tarkatan into the acid pool resulted in a skirmish between both sides, they managed to secure Sindel’s coffin and get through Erron, Baraka and Jade thanks to Sheeva. After arriving at the Soul Chamber, Fujin assisted Shang Tsung on restoring Sindel to her living self, while Sheeva prevent Kitana Kahn and a recovered Kotal from interfering. After Sindel’s resurrection, Fujin and his allies were joined by Sindel as they travelled to Shang Tsung’s abandoned island to find the crown before the Briggs family, knowing Kronika would send revenants Kabal, Jade, Noob Saibot and a reluctant older Jax to assist Cetrion there. While Sindel and Nightwolf stayed on the surface to kombat Cetrion, Fujin and Shang Tsung proceed to Goro’s old lair where the crown was guarded by Noob Saibot and older Jax. After finally defeating Noob in a rematch, Fujin stopped Shang Tsung from killing Jax and managed to convince the latter to return to their side. With Cetrion the only one left, Fujin and his allies used their combined powers to surround and overpower her, sending her back to Kronika, and finally securing the crown.
Whereas Nightwolf and Jax returned with Jacqui and younger Jax, while Sindel returned to Kitana Kahn, Fujin and Shang Tsung immediately went to the Fire Garden to give the crown to Raiden. But Raiden believed that Shang Tsung had tricked Fujin in some way, so he fought them. Once Raiden realized that Shinnok's Amulet was influencing him, he assisted Shang Tsung and Fujin. Kronika later arrived, only to retreat after being attacked. During the time of the battle at Kronika's Keep, Fujin and Raiden battled Shang Tsung after his betrayal. Shang Tsung then drained Fujin's and Raiden's powers from them, planning to use them as batteries for all eternity.
