Spikes are small, orb-shaped Dark Gaia minions that appear in the PlayStation 2/Wii version of Sonic Unleashed. These creatures are rounded, have purplish skin with a glowing magenta eye, and a rupture on top of their bodies that exposes a fiery core.
Spikes are immobile and do not actively take part in combat. However, if Sonic the Werehog touches one, it will start bleeping as it counts down to a self-destruct. After about seven seconds, the Spike detonates in a fiery explosion, causing heavy damage to Sonic and any enemies caught in the blast radius. While Spikes do not move, Sonic is capable of picking them up and throwing them at enemies.
