Scalies are creatures which appear in Games Workshop's Warhammer 40,000 universe.

Towering over a normal man, Scalies are heavily muscled reptilian humanoids with, as their name would suggest, scaled skin. They are a relatively stable strain of mutant which inhabit the Underhives of the industrial world Necromunda and are believed to live in secretive clans in the most polluted levels of the Hives (which is speculated as being the source of their mutation). However, as their vocal chords are so twisted, little communication can be made with them, and so the true extent of their numbers can only be guessed at.
Many Scalies throw in their lot with the Scavvy gangs which scour the most lawless areas of the Hives. Amongst these degenerates, Scalies find employment as heavy-weapons gang members, being capable of carrying loads far in excess of that which even the strongest of men could bear. It is not uncommon to encounter Scalies which tote enormous spear-throwing crossbows, or shotguns with a bore closer to that of a cannon than a rifle, and as a result many gain a high degree of technological savvy.
