Far Realm

The Far Realm is a plane of reality that exists in various Dungeons & Dragons campaign settings. Also known as the Outside, it is regarded as a plane beyond planes, the nightmarish in-between space found between all other planes of existence. No factual documentation of the Far Realm exists, at least none that anyone is willing to accept. To comprehend the workings of the Far Realm is, at best, an exercise in futility. At its worst, it is inviting madness. The structure of the Far Realm is ever-changing and too alien for denizens of the Material Plane to understand. Even to gaze into this space is to risk total, irrevocable insanity. Fortunately, no portals exist between the Far Realm and the Material Plane, at least none that are easily accessible.

Characteristics[]

The Far Realm has no stable geography or geology as it does not conform to any laws of nature; it lacks gravity, its landscapes are perpetually shifting, and it has no borders, consisting of an unlimited number of layers of infinite size and scope. Even time has no meaning there; a day, a year or even a century can pass in the Far Realm and it all amounts to less than an instant in the Material Plane.

Inhabitants[]

Below is a list of creatures believed to have originated from the Far Realm, though they have also been encountered on the Material Plane.
