Sandslash is a Ground-type Pokémon and the evolved form of Sandshrew. Its rough hide has broken out into several sharp quills covering its back and its short claws have grown into long, razor-sharp talons.
Pokédex Data[]
Sandslash makes its home in desert areas and primarily dwells beneath the ground. When threatened, it will curl up into a ball and surround itself with its spines, stopping other Pokémon from touching it. It will strike back by slashing at enemies with its large claws.
If it needs to get away, Sandslash can run (or roll) across terrain at great speed, kicking up a cloud of sand to blind enemies and cover its escape. It will shed its claws and quills on a regular basis, but they always grow back quickly.
Alolan Variant[]
The Alolan variant of Sandslash is an Ice/Steel-type Pokémon that lives deep within snowcapped mountains. Its body is covered with glittering blue spikes encrusted with ice and its claws are longer and sharper, ending in hooked tips. These hooked claws allow Sandslash to anchor itself to icy cliff faces and keep it from sliding out of control across frozen terrain.
