XCOM2 Faceless

The Faceless is an alien unit that appears in the turn-based strategy game XCOM 2. Since their subjugation of Earth, the Elders have created these sinister shape-shifting creatures to infiltrate human society and monitor key individuals living under the ADVENT regime. These monsters have also been implanted into the human resistance to spy on XCOM and sabotage efforts to undermine ADVENT.

Description[]

In its true form, the Faceless appears as a huge humanoid creature made of a molten, clay-like substance. It stands at ten feet tall, its head sporting a pair of glowing red eyes but no ears, mouth or nose. Its arms stretch down past its knees and end in sharp, black claws.

Faceless are most often encountered during Retaliation missions, though they can also appear in missions where the player is required to extract VIPs from populated areas. They disguise themselves as human civilians and are indistinguishable from any other civilians in the area, only revealing themselves when an XCOM soldier enters a tile within the "rescue perimeter" of the civilian they are disguised as, or when all other alien units have been eliminated.

Upon revealing itself, a Faceless will start attacking XCOM soldiers. It will ONLY target soldiers, only killing civilians that also happen to be nearby when it attacks. It attacks by swiping with its long arms and the attack has an Area of Effect, damaging any units and cover within that area. It has no ranged attacks so it must get in close to attack a unit, but it is fairly resilient and can cover up to 14 tiles in a single movement.

Abilities[]

  • Shapeshifting - While disguised as a civilian, the Faceless cannot be told apart from actual civilians and cannot be targeted, though it can be damaged by explosives if caught within their blast radius.
  • Area of Effect - A swipe from the Faceless' claws will damage everything within the 3 tiles in front of it.
  • Regeneration - At the end of the Alien Activity turn, the Faceless will regain a small amount of health.
