The Ewoks are a sentient species of furry bipedal creatures from the Star Wars franchise. Native to the forest moon of Endor, they live by a tribal social structure and are considered primitive by most other beings. While they do not possess advanced technology, Ewoks are an industrious and cultured race; they have built many complex wooden structures in the forests they call home, living high in the trees within villages built between trees that are closely spaced.

Ewoks were sentient humanoids, averaging about three feet in height. Omnivorous, they were covered in hair from head to toe, with brown and black being the most common colors. Most Ewoks had solid-colored fur, although some had a few sporty stripes. Ewoks had large, glowing eyes, small humanoid noses, and hands that possessed two fingers and an opposable thumb. Despite their small size, Ewoks were physically strong enough to overpower trained humans in combat.

While not advanced by the standards of most races, Ewoks were an industrious race, having keen woodcrafting skills that allowed them to make sturdy shelters and complex devices out of the materials provided by their forest environment. Such devices included intricate pulley-and-lever gondolas for transporting supplies between villages or to and from the forest floor, as well as cunning traps to use against enemies. Such traps proved to be highly effective against the forces of the Galactic Empire when they occupied Endor in 4 ABY.
While small in size, Ewoks were nonetheless fierce hunters and warriors. They were adept at hunting all manner of beasts native to their homeworld and could even overpower most combat-trained humans. In combat, they would use knives, spears, slings, nets, and bows and arrows. With their ingenuity and knowledge of Endor's terrain, they were able to craft various "heavy weapons" and traps out of large rocks and fallen trees which could be used to defeat large numbers of soldiers and even cripple or destroy Imperial scout walkers.
Ewoks were also a very spiritual people. They revered the surrounding giant trees and believed themselves to be descendants of the "Great Tree," a sacred tree in the forests. The legend of the Golden One told of a deity that allowed the Ewoks to live in light. After C-3PO and his rebel allies arrived and led the Ewoks into the Battle of Endor, the legend told that the Golden One had returned to answer their prayers. The conifer trees where Ewoks lived were also fire resistant, and served as a natural insect repellent.
