E.T. the Extraterrestrial
E.T. is the titular main character in the 1982 film E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Origins[]
E.T. is the nickname given to a chubby, short-legged Asogian; who was part of an expedition that visited Earth and was accidentally left behind by his colleagues, becoming stranded on the planet as a result. He has large blue eyes, telepathic abilities, and can heal wounds with his touch.
In a California forest, a group of alien botanists collect samples of flora. When government agents appear on the scene, the aliens flee in their spaceship, mistakenly leaving one of their own behind. The scene changes to a suburban house, where a 10-year-old boy named Elliott is trying to date his 16-year-old brother Michael and his friends. When he returns from picking up a pizza, Elliott discovers that something is hiding in his tool shed. The creature quickly flees upon being discovered. Despite his family's disbelief of him, Elliott lures the alien from the woods into his room using a trail of Reese's Pieces. Before going to sleep, Elliott notices that the alien is mimicking his movements. Elliott pretends to be sick the next morning to stay home from school and play with the alien. Later that day, Michael and his five-year-old sister Gertie meet the extraterrestrial. He decides to keep it hidden from his mother. When asked about his origin, the alien levitates various balls to represent his solar system and then demonstrates his powers by reviving a pot of dead flowers. At school the next day, Elliott begins to experience a psychic connection with the alien, including signs of intoxication due to the alien drinking beer, and begins freeing all the frogs in a biology class. As the alien watches John Wayne kiss Maureen O'Hara in The Quiet Man, Elliott kisses a girl he likes.

The extraterrestrial learns to speak English by repeating what Gertie says while watching Sesame Street and, at Elliott's urging, calls himself "E.T" E.T reads a comic strip where a stranded Buck Rogers asks for help to build a makeshift communication device, and is inspired to try it out for himself. He gets Elliott's help to build a "call home" device using a Speak & Spell toy. Michael notices that ET's health is failing and that Elliott is referring to himself as "us".
On Halloween, Michael and Elliott saw E.T as a ghost so they could get him out of the house. Elliott and E.T bike into the woods, where E.T makes a successful phone call home. The next morning, Elliott wakes up in the field, only to find ET missing, so he returns home to his distraught family. Michael searches for and finds E.T dying in a ditch and brings him to Elliott, who is also dying. Mary freaks out when she discovers her son's illness and the dying alien, just as government agents invade the house. Knowledge sprung up a medical facility there, quarantining Elliott and E.T. Their link disappears and E.T then appears to die while Elliott recovers. A grief-stricken Elliott is left alone with the motionless alien when he notices the pot of dead flowers, the same flowers that E.T had previously revived, coming back to life. E.T reanimates and reveals that his people are returning. Elliott and Michael stole a van that E.T had gotten into and a chase ensued, with Michael's friends joining them as they attempted to evade authorities on bicycles. Suddenly, he faces a dead end and they escape as ET uses telekinesis to lift them into the air and into the woods.
Standing near the spaceship, E.T's heart glows as he prepares to return home. Mary, Gertie and "Keys", a government agent, appear. E.T bids Michael and Gertie farewell, as Gertie presents ET with the flowers she had revived. Before entering the spaceship, E.T tells Elliott "I'll be right here", pointing his glowing finger at Elliott's forehead. He then picks up the flowers Gertie gave him, enters the spaceship and takes off, leaving a rainbow in the sky as Elliott (and the rest of them) watch the ship depart.
Overview[]
E.T. was left behind by his fellow Aliens who left in their Mothership without him by mistake. E.T. later fled to a near by town where he became friends with a boy named Elliot who lived in a house that he stalked until he was found. E.T. was later captured by the U.S. Government and taken to a lab and then rescued by the boy, and taken back to his home planet.
In 2019, 37 years after his last visit, E.T. returns to visit his now fully adult friend Elliot and meets his family. He stays there for a couple days, spending the holiday season until he returns home, but leaves a holographic projector in their possession to remember him.
