The Dweller in the Gulf image

The Dweller in the Gulf, or The Eidolon of the Blind, is a subterranean alien animal who appears in the H.P. Lovecraft-inspired Cthulhu Mythos.

Description[]

Resembling a tortoise, albeit one of gargantuan proportions, with a soft, wet carapace reminiscent of that of a Glyptodon, the Dweller in the Gulf walks on a dozen short legs, each equipped with suckers which enable it to scale sheer surfaces. It is the colour of white gold, eyeless, possesses a twin tail, and from the corners of its mouth protrude a pair of yard-long proboscises which it uses to remove and consume the eyes of its prey, in the process turning them into its blind servants.

Although there is speculation that the Dweller may have originated elsewhere, it currently resides in a subterranean lair deep beneath the surface of the planet Mars, where it is worshiped by a blind sect of the alien race known as the Aihai. These creatures summon their god by using his statue, ritualistically stroking and fondling it until the Dweller appears.
