Dr. Malcolm Betruger, later known as the Maledict, is the main antagonist of Doom 3 and its expansion pack, Resurrection of Evil. A different version of him appears in the film Doom: Annihilation.

Biography[]

Dr. Betruger was one of the top researchers of the Union Aerospace Corporation Facility on Mars. While he was sleeping, the demons of Hell spoke to him in his dreams and promised him power in exchange for helping them take over humanity. He entered Hell through a portal and came back with a much different personality. He since conspired with the demons plans to take over on the UAC base and send a false call for help from Earth as a trick to board their ships and use the ships to invade Earth.

Following the defeat of the Cyberdemon and the sealing of the Hell portals by a UAC marine, Betruger was turned into the Maledict, a gargoyle-esque demon and awaited another opportunity for invasion. During the events of Resurrection of Evil, another portal to Hell opened up when another marine activated a magical heart artifact. The marine confronted Betruger in Hell and after Betruger greatly wounded him, the marine shoved the artifact down Betruger’s throat, disintegrating him and leaving only his human skull behind.

Trivia[]
