a Dorotabo is a type of vengeful yokai-ghost from Japanese folklore that was born when the unhappy spirit of a former rice-field owner returned to exact revenge upon those that left their rice-field to ruin due to neglect or ignorance.
A Dorotabo would rise from the grave every night as a three fingered, rotting mud-covered corpse that would continually wail and haunt the rice-field, disturbing the rest of those nearby - the Dorotabo would continue to haunt the area until the offender either repented or sold the land to someone who could take proper care of the rice-field.
