The Death Marshals are Guild Master Lady Justice’s shock troops who appear in Wyrd Games’ Malifaux universe.
Description[]
Members of the Guild’s elite anti-Resurrectionist division The Death Marshals, to which they give their name, each one of these creatures is a human who has been trained in the dark arts of necromancy, but forbidden its use, and sworn to uphold the laws of the Guild.
Whilst the old adage of “know thine enemy” holds as true in Malifaux as anywhere else, the mere fact that this knowledge has been imparted to these once-men has proven enough to warp and twist their physical form to the extent that they now resemble nothing so much as the walking cadavers which it is their duty to destroy. Death Marshals are forever after forced to wear wide-brimmed hats, clothing which covers their whole body, and some kind of facial concealment, so as not to terrify the population which they diligently protect.
However, despite their physical deformities, the Death Marshals are exceedingly good at what they do, and what they do is bring Resurrectionists to face justice at the hands of the Guild. Their knowledge of death magic makes them extremely hard to kill, and those who are wounded are still capable of functioning at their full capacity; even the body of a deceased Marshal will provide nothing that a Resurrectionist can use in his own sorceries.
The greatest weapons the Death Marshals employ however, is their pine boxes. These coffin-like tools can be used to capture, contain, and deprive of magic all but the most powerful Resurrectionists, and those confined within can expect no mercy when the box is finally opened . . .
