Dark Pirate Troopers are enemies encountered in Metroid Prime 2: Echoes. They are Space Pirate troopers that have been possessed by the Ing and transformed into Darklings.
Being trained to follow orders without question, Space Pirates made prime candidates for possession by the Ing. The Ing were also fascinated by the technology the Pirates utilized, making them all the more favourable.
When possessed, a trooper's colouration changes to black with glowing magenta patches beneath its chitinous plates. Several long spines extend from its back, indicative of a Warrior Ing. In this state, the trooper becomes far more durable and is afforded greater resistance to Samus Aran's Power Beam and missiles. However, like all Ing and their possessed creatures, Dark Pirate Troopers are extremely vulnerable to the Light Beam and the Annihilator Beam. Power Bombs and the Screw Attack are also effective.
As with regular Pirate Troopers, Dark Pirate Troopers fight using their scythe-like blades and Quantum Assault Cannons.
