Dark Eels are a variety of Dark Gaia minion that appear in Sonic Unleashed. These serpentine creatures emerge from cracks in the ground to attack Sonic the Werehog.

The Dark Eel appears to be a form of serpent with a long, limbless body, horns upon its head and glowing purple eyes and spots running down the length of its body. As a spawn of Dark Gaia, it can possess people by latching onto the deepest, darkest part of the heart, and generate despair, negative emotions or even erratic behaviour that are completely opposite to the person's personality.
Dark Eels attack Sonic by erupting from the ground and attempting to strike him with their horns. They are also capable of firing blasts of evil energy from their mouths.
