The Curien Mansion was the main setting of the original House of the Dead arcade game. This grand estate was the residence of bio-engineer Dr. Roy Curien; beneath the mansion was a laboratory where the doctor conducted numerous genetic experiments, using his BioReactor to create an army of zombies and other creatures to wipe out mankind.
History[]
The Curien Mansion was originally built during the Middle Ages, though nothing of its early history is known beyond that. In the 20th century, it fell under the ownership of Dr. Curien who lived there with his son, Daniel. After Daniel fell terminally ill, Curien recieved financial backing from Caleb Goldman and the DBR Corporation in order to construct an advanced genetic laboratory beneath the estate.
While originally intending to cure his son's disease, Curien's obsession with breaking the barriers between life and death led to him conducting horrifying experiments on his own staff. Most of the doctor's researchers abandoned him and Curien was driven mad. He engineered an army of mutant creatures and set them on his former colleagues, intent on using these monsters to destroy all mankind.
Curien's activities attracted the attention of the AMS, who sent agents Thomas Rogan and G to the Curien Mansion to put a stop to the doctor's plan. After fighting their way through hordes of zombies and monsters, the two agents confronted Dr. Curien in his laboratory as he activated his masterpiece: the Magician. The rebellious Magician killed Curien before attacking Rogan and G, but the agents persevered and defeated the creature. With Curien and his creations all dead, the case was closed and the Curien Mansion was left abandoned.
