Chaos Warhounds are creatures which appear in Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy universe.
Description[]
Descended from the dogs and wolves which made their homes amongst the barbaric human tribes of the North, these creatures were subjected to the changing effects of the raw magic which blows down from the Northern Chaos Gate, and as a result have become mutated beyond all recognition. Many now stand as tall as a full-grown man at the shoulder, bulging with unnatural muscle, and all have developed characteristics not found on any normal canine; horns and spines, multiple heads, scaly skin or venomous scorpion-like tails are all features which can be commonly found on a typical Chaos Warhound.
Behaviour[]
Although fast and vicious creatures, Chaos Warhounds still possess the pack mentality of their ancestors: as a result, while a single Warhound may not pose much of a threat to a group of humans, when several get together they are a truly terrifying enemy to face.
These beasts, being creatures of Chaos, often join up with the armies of Chaos Warriors and Beastmen which regularly descend through Troll Country to raid the more northerly civilisations of men in the Old World. As part of these warbands, the Hounds usually operate as outriders for the main force, attacking small, lightly armed units, and giving early warning to their more intelligent masters when a larger force is encountered.
