Changelings are recurring creatures in the My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic series.
Appearance[]
The changelings have a pony-like appearance but are black in color and insect-like, they have light blue wings and light blue bug eyes and a back of blue, there are also holes inside their bodies due to their insect-like appearance.
Personality[]
The changelings are led by Queen Chrysalis as they are her assistants and always help her in everything. They can transform into another species to deceive their victims and reveal themselves to her, however, in the Season 6 finale, Starlight Shimmer reforms all the changelings with Thorax's help, but Chrysalis didn't want to be by their side and instead wanted revenge on her for taking her colony.
Now that the changelings are Thorax's followers, they all join the good side to change moods and status as they befriend the ponies at the end of Season 6.
Notes[]
- They are named after Changelings, a type of fairy found in European folklore.
- They have similar traits to parasitic wasps or xenomorphs from the Alien franchise (of course toned down for the much younger target audience).
- They also resemble the Succubi and Incubi from European folklore (of course toned down for the much younger target audience).
- Changelings slightly resemble Thestrals from Harry Potter.
- Queen Chrysalis and the Changelings may be based off of Sinisteeds; dark horse-like creatures who thrive on feeding off of love and emotions from the novel Gossamer by Lois Lowry.
- They resemble to the water horse Kelpie from Scottish folklore, both are fearsome mythical shapeshifting dark horse-like creatures.
- The concept of the Changelings as horse-like insect creatures probably originates from the pun name "horse fly".
