Cetrion is a character from the Mortal Kombat video game series. Introduced in Mortal Kombat 11, she is a goddess of life and virtue, the polar opposite of her brother Shinnok. She stood among the pantheon of Elder Gods until her mother, the Titan known as Kronika, enacted a scheme to create a new, perfect timeline. Despite being a goddess of virtue, Cetrion's first loyalty was to her mother and was more than willing to commit whatever heinous actions were deemed necessary to carry out Kronika's will.
History[]
For eons, the forces of good and evil remained in balance. By the design of their mother Kronika, Cetrion - Elder Goddess of Light and Life - and Shinnok - Elder God of Darkness and Death - had been eternally locked in battle with one another, maintaining the balance of good and evil in the universe via a perpetual cycle of conflict.
However, Kronika's perfect balance was disrupted by the Thunder God Raiden, who had decapitated Shinnok after the latter's failed attempt to destroy Earthrealm. Unable to die, Shinnok was rendered catatonic, thus forever removing him from Kronika's celestial game and tipping the balance in favour of good. Infuriated by Raiden's actions, Kronika enacted a plot to re-establish balance and create a new, perfect timeline, one where Raiden didn't exist.
Kronika would enlist several allies to her cause, including her daughter Cetrion, who stood amongst the Elder Gods. Seeing her mother's mission of maintaining equilibrium between good and evil as the highest of virtues, Cetrion willingly turned against the Elder Gods and sided with Kronika while the rest of her pantheon were wiped from existence.
Cetrion would confront Jax and Jacqui Briggs on Shang Tsung's island when the pair went there in search of Kronika's Crown of Souls. Despite the humans' efforts, Cetrion took the crown, returning it to her mother. Later, when Liu Kang had breached Kronika's Keep, he fought against Cetrion and defeated her thanks to his new status as a Fire God. Cetrion then offered her remaining power to Kronika, allowing the Titan to completely absorb her essence so that she could destroy Liu Kang and accomplish her mission. Even with Cetrion's essence empowering her, Kronika was unable to defeat Liu Kang and was destroyed.
Abilities[]
- Immortality - As an Elder Goddess, Cetrion can never perish. She can, presumably, be incapacitated much like her brother Shinnok was via decapitation.
- Life-giving - Being a goddess of nature, Cetrion can cause plants to grow and flourish wherever she goes.
- Elemental Control - Cetrion holds power over all the elements of nature. In kombat, she can create powerful winds to blow enemies off-balance, conjure barriers and armour of rock, project high-pressure streams of water, cause volcanic eruptions, cast flames and rays of light.
- Sizeshifting - Cetrion can increase her size to the point where she towers over the entire Earth.
- Telekinesis - Cetrion can manipulate objects with her mind.
