Carnosaurs are creatures which appear in Games Workshop’s Warhammer Fantasy and Age of Sigmar settings.

Description[]

Enormous dinosaurian monstrosities with some resemblance to a terrestrial Tyrannosaur, Carnosaurs are the apex predator of the Lustrian jungles which they have inhabited since time immemorial. Whilst their forelimbs are somewhat stunted, they are possessed of extremely muscular hind legs which are tipped with deadly claws. Their primary weapon, however, is their jaws: massively powerful, there are few creatures in the Warhammer World whose natural defences can withstand the bite of an enraged Carnosaur.

In addition, once a Carnosaur has tasted blood, it will enter a form of killing frenzy, ripping and tearing at anything that comes close. In such a state, it is wise to simply vacate the area, wait until the creature has spent its rage, eaten its fill, and subsequently dropped into a food coma.

Carnosaur Riders[]

On occasion, a particularly adventurous Skink will chance across an unprotected Carnosaur nest and be fortunate enough to make it away alive with one of the beasts’ eggs. When this happens, the Skink will take the egg home to its Temple-City, where a dedicated cohort of Skinks will undertake the dangerous task of hand-rearing the creature, so that it may be ridden into battle. As even juvenile Carnosaurs are highly aggressive animals, this is an extremely hazardous venture, and few of the original Skink handlers will live to see the beast reach maturity.

In addition, Skinks lack the strength of will required to command one of these monsters as a mount. This task is only entrusted to the largest and most powerful of their bigger cousins, the Saurus. However, the rewards of successfully bringing an adult Carnosaur to battle are great, and many an enemy has simply run in terror at the mere sight of a Saurus Oldblood marching forward in the saddle of one of these fearsome creatures.
