Cadou are genetically engineered parasites that appear in the video game Resident Evil Village. These organisms were developed by Miranda using nematodes infected with the Mold.
Biology[]
Being based on the Megamycete, Cadou were capable of assimilating the DNA of a host organism and alter it to incorporate the DNA of previously assimilated organisms. The Cadou was immobile on its own and needed to be implanted surgically, usually within the abdominal region. Once implanted, the parasite would absorb the DNA of the host and also any other foreign DNA that happened to be within the body. As part of her experiments with the Cadou, Miranda had injected many of her test subjects with animal blood, resulting in radical mutations once Cadou assimilation had commenced. Such mutations included the Vârcolac - which incorporated wolf genes - and the daughters of Alcina Dimitrescu who could turn from humans into swarms of insects.
Miranda's experiments with the Cadou were intended to produce a suitable vessel for the consciousness of her deceased daughter Eva, but yielded unsatisfactory results. However, four Cadou hosts would come to develop superhuman abilities while maintaining their cognitive faculties and being able to control their own Mold sub-colonies. These would become the Lords of the Four Houses that once ruled over the land where Miranda conducted her research: Alcina Dimitrescu, Salvatore Moreau, Donna Beneviento and Karl Heisenberg.
In 2021, Miranda, her laboratory and the Megamycete itself were destroyed during a raid on her village by the Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance. As such, all organisms that had been infected with the Mold, including the Cadou, were destroyed along with all of Miranda's research.
