Brass dragon

Brass dragons are a type of metallic dragon that appear in Dungeons & Dragons. Though weaker than other types of dragon, they are still extremely dangerous all the same. Roguish and daring, they often seek out adventure and offer themselves to noble causes... for the right price, of course.

Description[]

Brass dragons are quite lean in build, their most outstanding physical features being the sail-like wings expanding from their backs which extend all the way to their tail-tips. A prominent head crest shaped like a plowshare distinguishes brass dragons from other varieties. Young brass dragons are a dull, mottled brown. As they age, their colour becomes more brassy, taking on a warm luster. They have a faintly acrid odour reminiscent of hot, oiled metal.

Personality-wise, brass dragons are proud, curious, and quite noble. They enjoy conversing with other creatures more than other dragon types (save, perhaps, coppers) and do not kill without just cause. That being said, they are mostly self-serving; though quite willing to embark on a quest with a noble band of adventurers, a brass dragon will typically only do so if they can profit from it.

Lairs and Terrain[]

Brass dragons are desert-dwellers by nature, preferring to take up residence in hot, arid locales. They tend to make their lairs within inaccessible canyons or atop rocky mesas, digging out caverns to conceal themselves and their treasure hoards. They will try to make these lairs as difficult as possible for anyone to access.

Favoured Treasure[]

While they value all precious items, brass dragons especially covet handcrafted items such as woven fabrics, wood carvings and stone sculptures.

Diet[]

Brass dragons typically hunt on the wing and prefer to eat mountain goats, sheep, antelope, and other such creatures. Only the most evil of brass dragons would choose to devour an intelligent creature, but a brass isn't above helping itself to a traveler's mount and leaving him or her stranded on foot. Well adapted for desert life, brass dragons can survive on almost no water.

Abilities[]

  • Flight
  • Blindsight - A brass dragon's vision cannot be dulled or obscured. They can see perfectly in complete darkness and through smoke.
  • Immunity - Brass dragons are immune to fire.
  • Polymorph - Brass dragons can shapeshift into any humanoid or beast.
  • Breath Weapons - Brass dragons can breathe a line of fire to incinerate foes. They can also exhale a cone of gas that puts victims to sleep.
