Boneys

A Boney is a type of zombie that appears in the novel Warm Bodies as well as its film adaptation. Distinct from Corpses, Bonies are so named due to their advanced state of decay. Their skin, eyes and most of their muscle tissue have completely deteriorated, leaving little else apart from a blackened skeleton.

While Corpses retain a degree of memory of their past lives and still possess conscious thought, Bonies have all but been reduced to animals. While they demonstrate pack characteristics, they show no interest in anything other than food and will prey upon anything that has a heartbeat. They generally ignore Corpses, unless one acts in a threatening manner.

Despite losing most of their muscle tissue, Bonies are considerably fast and strong. When living prey is detected, they will run at an athletic pace to reach it, climbing over obstacles and even scaling walls to do so. While other types of zombie lack any survival instincts, Bonies have retained a greater sense of self-preservation as they will attempt to dodge bullets even while charging at a group of well-armed humans.

Like other zombie types, a Boney can only be killed permanently by destroying what's left of its brain.
