Bolster was a giant whose legend originates in Cornish folklore.
Description[]
A towering brute said to be able to cover six miles in a single step, Bolster was a rapacious eater of both livestock and people. He lived on the cliffs beside a small coastal town named St. Agnes.
History[]
Tired of Bolster's predations, several locals, including a knight by the name of Sir Constantine, attempted to put an end to the giant's evil ways. Predictably, all of these ended in failure, as the mighty creature was able to best everyone who went against him with his sheer size and strength.
However, Bolster's eye fell upon a young maiden by the name of Agnes, and he fell instantly and completely in love with the girl. Despite asking her to marry him over and over again times, Agnes repeatedly refused, much to Bolster's chagrin, though it did not deter him. Eventually Agnes came up with a ploy to rid both herself of a troublesome suitor, and her village of the scourge which had plagued it for many long years. She consented to marry the giant, but only if he would fill a great hole beside the cliffs with his own blood, knowing full well that the hole contained a crack in the bottom which led directly into the ocean. Bolster, being unaware of this fact agreed, thinking it an easy task for one of his size. He laid down on the ground and plunged a knife into his arm, letting the blood flow into the hole, which obviously never filled up. Finally realising that the task was beyond him, Bolster attempted to rise, but the loss of blood was too much even for one such as he. Unfortunately for the giant, by this point he had been so weakened that he was unable to move, and the tyrant's reign was ended as he bled out on the cliffs of Cornwall.
