Beetles are a basic variety of creature employable in the first Dungeon Keeper game. Obtainable from the very first stage, these large black bugs can be useful early on in the game but soon become obsolete in later stages when tougher creatures such as warlocks and bile demons become available.
Beetles are easy to maintain as they have no real likes or dislikes and require only the basic essentials to attract to the dungeon: a small treasury, a lair and a hatchery. They have no outstanding skills and can be put to work in any room in the dungeon if there are no better-suited creatures available. They have no remarkable combat abilities either other than Freeze, which they learn once they reach Level 7, but by that time there will most likely be other stronger creatures to command or no foes left to slay in a particular realm.
