Bashe are evil spirits from Chinese mythology that manifest as giant serpents, a common myth across many cultures, likely inspired by tales of encounters with actual snakes but greatly altered over time, the idea of snakes as evil creatures is also common in tales such as the Serpent of Christian lore, the Wyrms of European folk tales and sea-serpents, however in some cultures snakes are seen in a more positive light, such as the Rainbow Serpent of Australian Aborigine myths.
History[]
Bashe are evil spirits from Chinese mythology that take the form of gigantic snakes infamous for their ability to devour elephants, the Bashe was likely based upon the python and due to their sheer scale they became a focus on certain tales and warnings about human greed, comparing greed to that of the legendary serpents and their fearsome appetite.
The Bashe were part of a group of evil entities in Chinese cosmology known as Yaouguai.
