Barugon

Barugon (バルゴン), not to be confused with Baragon from Toho Studios' Godzilla franchise, is an ancient chameleon monster that faced Gamera in the 1966 film Gamera vs. Barugon.

Appearance[]

Barugon resembles a giant chameleon with a long snout, a nasal horn and two horns on the top of its head, and a very long stiff tongue. Barugon is 50 meters tall, 80 meters long, and weighs 70 tons.

Origins[]

Barugon was a legendary creature on his native island that every few centuries would hatch from an opal and attack the people of the island. Barugon was always slain and the cycle would begin again. A thief stole Barugon's egg believing it to be a regular opal and unwittingly exposed it to infared light, causing it to hatch and grow to gigantic proportions.
