The Baba Yaga was an ancient vampire of the Nosferatu Clan of who featured in White Wolf Publishing’s World of Darkness setting.
Description
Standing fully eight feet tall, the Baba Yaga was said to have been possessed of fangs and claws made of iron, skin which was covered in weeping sores, and the face of something from beyond the grave. Being a vampire of the Fourth Generation, she was incredibly powerful, and at one point used her magical abilities to seal off the entirety of Russia for a time before her death.
History
According to some Nosferatu legends, the Baba Yaga was the only one of Absimiliard’s offspring to escape the clutches of her sire, and fled to a place where even he was
unable to reach her. These legends state that in the following years, she created Clan Nosferatu as it is today, and as a result of her betrayal, the whole Clan is doomed to be hunted to extinction by Absimiliard and his vengeful Childer.
Once believed by the people of Russia and the Slavic states to have been little more than a legend with which to scare children, the Baba Yaga slept beneath the soil of that region for many long millennia, having little to do with the doings of either mortals or even her own Clan.
However, at some point in 1990, the Baba Yaga awoke from her long slumber, and in a matter of weeks destroyed the Brujah vampires who had ruled Russia since the Revolution of 1917. Her next act was to cast an immensely powerful spell around the country which in effect sealed the whole region off from supernatural influences, and for a time she ruled Russia as its absolute master.
The Baba Yaga’s end came when a creature known as Vasilisa, believed to have been one of Absimiliard’s minions, tracked her down under the orders of her sire. Under the guise of a small girl, Vasilisa slew her, causing the Baba Yaga’s empire to crumble overnight, and also to bring down the Shadow Curtain which she had drawn about her realm.
