The Azuki Baba is a monster found in Japanese folk tales, often described as a yokai with hag-like properties. She enjoys luring humans to her so as to devour them. This makes her among the more dangerous of the washing-spirits found in world folklore, especially since she can often be mistaken for the more benevolent Azuki Arai, who also haunt rivers and streams. It is likely that the Azuki Baba deliberately mimics the traits of the Azuki Arai in order to hunt her prey.
History[]
An Azuki Baba is a type of man-eating yokai-hag from Japanese folklore that takes the form of a hideous old hag dressed all in white, singing in a husky, ugly voice, appearing only during the hours of twilight on rainy or misty nights. They practice a similar song to the Azuki Arai, but they do not do so for pranks as they will follow through on the morbid threat to catch and devour humans.
