Midian is where the monsters live

This article contains information regarding the creatures which are part of Monster Wiki's Tribes of the Moon project, from Clive Barker's novel Cabal, the movie adaptation Nightbreed, and its spin-off comic book series.

Ashberry, formerly Father Ashberry, was a character who appeared in the 1990 fantasy-horror movie Nightbreed and its spin-off comics.

Overview[]

A priest who had fallen from grace, Father Ashberry was being held in the Shere Neck police department’s drunk tank when Captain Eigerman discovered the existence of the Tribes of the Moon beneath the cemetery at Midian. Eigerman quickly pressed the unwilling man into service to assist his Sons of the Free as they assaulted what they saw to be a nest of monsters in their midst.

However, once the massacre at Midian began, Ashberry realised that there were women and children amongst the “monsters” being killed, and abandoned the Sons, venturing deep into the catacombs which the Nightbreed called home. Chancing across the chamber which held Baphomet, the Nightbreed’s spiritual leader, he pledged his service to the god/demon, but was caught in the spray of its blood when the Sons of the Free detonated one of their explosives in an effort to destroy the subterranean city. This had the effect of transforming him into one of the Nightbreed, but caused him to lose his already tenuous grasp on sanity and vow to put an end to the Tribes of the Moon.

In the aftermath of the attack Ashberry, now disfigured and immortal, came across the body of the dead Dr. Decker, and washed his wounds with Baphomet’s blood, reanimating Decker, and pledged his allegiance to the new ‘Breed as the Second Coming.

Trivia[]

  • Although Ashberry appeared in the novel upon which Nightbreed was based, Cabal, in that incarnation he was not transformed into one of the ‘Breed.
