Monster Wiki

Antlions are a spieces of insect-like creatures in the video game Terraria. They live in the underground desert and there are several types of them, those being the Antlion, Antlion Charger, Antlion Swarmer and Antlion Larva. The Chargers and Swarmers both have two different versions based on size: normal and giant.

Antlions[]

Antlion

Normal Antlions are anemies that are unable to move. They are stuck in the sand and only their head can be seen or interacted with. They attack by shooting a sand projectile at the player which turns into an ordinary sand block upon touching anything.

Loot[]

When killed the Antlion has a 33.3% chance of dropping 1-2 Antlion Mandibles and a 2% chance of dropping a Banana Split.

Bestiary[]

The bestiary entry for the Antlion says: "When antlions are nesting, they hide in the surface. To defend their eggs, they projectile vomit hard globs of sand at trespassers."

Antlion Chargers are the toughest of the Antlion species, having a maximum of 110 hp for the giant ones and 80 for the normal ones (normal mode). As their name suggests, they attack by charging and the player at incredibly high speeds and attempt to make contact with them. They can also jump while charging making their attack harder to avoid.

Loot[]

When killed the Antlion Chargers have a 2% chance of dropping a Banana Spit, a 33.3% chance of dropping 1-2 Antlion mandibles and a 2% chance of dropping a Mandible Blade.

Bestiary[]

The bestiary entry for the Antlion Charger says: "The soldiers of the antlion species, Antlion Chargers ferociously chase after intruders with a surprising speed."

Antlion Swarmers[]

Antlion Swarmers are flying dragonfly-like enemies. It has a lot of knockback resistance making it very hard to avoid. The lack of space in the underground desert adds to that transforming it into a significant threat.

When killed the Antlion Swarmers have a 2% chance of dropping a Banana Spit, a 33.3% chance of dropping 1-2 Antlion mandibles and a 2% chance of dropping a Mandible Blade.

Bestiary[]

The bestiary entry for the Antlion Swarmers says: "Antlion Swarmers patrol their nests with a watchful eye. Should anyone threaten their eggs, they will defend them fiercely."

Antlion Eggs

Antlion Larvae is a special type of enemy that does not spawn naturally. It can only spawn if a player breaks an Antlion Egg, a decoration that can be found all over the underground desert. Despite being young, the Larvae have the same AI as the Antlion Charger so they are able to do a lot of damage and, since their eggs are very common, they can easily outnumber and kill the player. As of 1.4.1 the Antlion Eggs are a craftable item making the Larvae one of the only non-boss enemies that can be summoned anywhere by the player.

Bestiary[]

The bestiary entry for the Antlion Larva says: "Freshly hatched from their eggs, larval antlions should not be underestimated. Though young, they are still very aggressive."
