Anima City

Anima City is an independent city/state and home to a species of human-animal hybrids called the Beastman. The city is the main setting where the plot of Brand New Animal takes place. Anima City is located in the 93rd ward in Japan

Description[]

The city is surrounded by the sea and isolated from human society. The mayor and founder of the city is Barbara Rose. The city is restricted in the Beastman Special Zone and is protected by the Beastman Territory Law. Sylvasta Pharmaceuticals was heavily involved in the development of the city.

According to the Beastmen Territory Special Law, information about human society is censored and all attempts will be redirected to the main page of Anima City.

The city is isolated from human society and provides the beastmen with a home where they can freely live and prosper without the danger and discrimination they face from human society.

Geography of the place[]

The city located on a peninsula surrounded by sea and mountains in the rear, and only accessible through tunnels in the mountains and ferry from the human continent. The city resides in the Beastman Special Zone.

History[]

"Since we established the Beastmen Territory Law, we have managed to develop Anima City, a city whereBeastmen can truly live" -Rose

Foundation[]

Due to civil unrest between the Beastmen and humans, President Rose and Prime Minister Shiramizu reached an agreement to create an independent territory for the Beastmen to reside. The policy came to be known as the Beastmen Territory Law which enforces the Beastmen Special Zone. To finance the creation of Anima City, Rose partnered with Silvasta Pharmaceuticals on the Beastman Special Zone Development Project. Anima City was erected in 2011.

Festival 10 years[]

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the city, a big festival has been held. The attendees appeared in their beastman form with Ginrou-shaped masks. The festival began with a speech by my Mayor Rose thanking the citizens and wishing the city prosperity. The festival had live performances, live music, and food stalls. There was a terrorist attempt to crash the festival, but the situation was quickly brought under control and fortunately no one was injured.

Society[]

While the initial appearance to those outside of Anima City makes it seem "flawless", there is a hidden dark society that mirrors that of normal human society and counteracts the tranquility and sanctuary that Anima City perceives as public. The official language appears to be Japanese, with some signs in English. Many aspects of society, such as social media, resemble modern Japan.

Many residents of Anima City seem to have a varying degree of faith in the beast deity Ginrou. Beastmen like Melissa have shrines in their homes to worship the Silver Wolf, and children still tell stories about the mythical beast as well. Most residents can agree that Ginrou is a symbol of hope for the beastmen in times of need. However, there are people who refuse to believe in Ginrou, especially the residents in the poorer areas of Anima City like the slums.

Besides the religious aspect, Ginrou is still strongly rooted in the beastman society. The 10th anniversary festival had a Ginrou float and attendees wore Ginrou-shaped masks.

Ginrou is also referenced in everyday speech similar to the use of God in the real world.

Inspiration[]

James Gilleard was the concept artist and helped brainstorm ideas for the city. Many of the influences come from developed coastal mountain cities, namely Hong Kong. The skyscraper's tower in his art resembles the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada and the Space Needle in Seattle, United States. The tree structures are inspired by the Supertrees in Singapore. The geography and landscape of the city are inspired by Gibraltar, Spain.
