Amefuri Kozo are slightly ugly (often described as "ugly-cute") child-like yokai who often wear traditional kimonos, wooden clogs and wide straw-hats, they also love to steal umbrellas and wear them over their heads, sometimes they will also mimic umbrellas.
They are not malicious yokai, even though they can play tricks on humans, indeed they are surprisingly important spirits akin to minor rain deities who serve the Japanese god of rain, Ushi, helping to bring rain to varied areas: they are well liked by kitsune, who often pray to these spirits during their weddings, since kitsune prefer to be wed during rainy days.
