The AlterEgo is a type of enemy creature from the survival-horror game The Evil Within. These beasts appear within Ruvik's mental landscape and are a product of connecting people with dissociative personality disorder to the STEM. The split personalities of the individual are reformed into this savage, conjoined abomination. Both "halves" of the creature are essentially separate beings that are forced to exist alongside one another in one body to eternally despise each other, an unending internal conflict that Ruvik finds amusing.
Description[]
From a glance, the AlterEgo may be mistaken for a regular Haunted. In the right light, its full features on display, it is something considerably more unsettling. The AlterEgo appears to be a gruesome fusion of a human being and a strange, animalistic creature, with the right half of the body being more or less completely human while the left side is mutated, covered in patches of rotten skin, pus-like fluids covering the torso, and the left arm replaced with a thin, whipping tentacle. Of particular note is the creature's head, or rather heads. It has two heads, one human and one bestial, that are merged together. The monstrous left head has hairless pink flesh that melts into the human right head, has blood-red eyes and a maw of sharp fangs.
Behavior[]
AlterEgos are less organized and meticulous than the Haunted and simply shamble about erratically in search of prey. They have a variety of attacks; at close range, they use their claws to maul victims or use their "beast" head's teeth to tear out a victim's neck for an instant kill. For more distant foes, the AlterEgo can spit acid streams, or worse, it will release a parasitic tentacle creature from its chest which will launch itself at a victim and rip their head off.
Combat[]
The player can attack an AlterEgo with any type of weapon available, though ranged weaponry is advised as their is a high chance of suffering an instant death by the AlterEgo's parasitic tentacle if fighting up close. The AlterEgo's weak spot is its beast head, which has a chance of being destroyed in a single attack. Destroying the beast head will kill the creature, though the AlterEgo can also be downed and then stomped on to finish it off. The player cannot, however, use Stealth Kills on AlterEgos.
