Lady Alcina Dimitrescu is the tertiary antagonist of the survival-horror game Resident Evil Village. This abnormally tall woman is the head of House Dimitrescu, one of the Four Houses that rule over an isolated Eastern European village under Mother Miranda. Like the other Lords serving Miranda, Lady Dimitrescu is the product of Miranda's experiments with the Mold-based Cadou parasite, a failed attempt to create a superhuman host for the consciousness of Miranda's dead daughter, Eva.
History[]
Early life[]
Alcina Dimitrescu is believed to have been born some time before the First World War. Her bloodline could be traced back to Cesare, one of the four founders of the isolated village where her family's castle stood. Alcina had inherited a hereditary blood disease passed down through the women of the Dimitrescu line.
In her early life, Alcina did not live in her family's castle, instead living outside of the village. During the 1930's, she pursued a career as a jazz singer under the stage name "Miss D" along with her band, the Pallboys. Following the Second World War, she would return to her family's land, though by this time the nobility had been abolished.
Mutation[]
By the time Lady Dimitrescu moved into her family's castle, the villagers had been indoctrinated into a neopagan cult under Mother Miranda, worshipping a deity referred to as the "Black God". Prior to 1958, she was lured into a crypt beneath the village cemetery where Miranda would have her implanted with the Cadou, a parasitic organism engineered from the mycelial organism known as the "Mold." The purpose of this experiment was to determine her viability as a candidate who could become host to a parasitic intelligence at a later date.
Unlike Miranda's previous test subjects who had de-evolved into feral Lycans, Lady Dimitrescu's mutation blessed her with a number of remarkable traits and abilities. Her body grew to an exceptional height of 9' 6" while her ageing process completely stopped. She also developed advanced regenerative capabilities, could extend her nails into razor-sharp claws and could even transform into a terrifying, dragon-like monster. However, because of her blood disease, Dimitrescu also developed porphyria in conjunction with her mutation. This meant that she required a steady diet of fresh human blood in order to maintain her health, and as such, Miranda considered her a failed test subject.
As a Lord[]
Although Dimitrescu was no use as a host, her claim to Castle Dimitrescu was recognized by Miranda and she was allowed to take residence in the village as one of the Four Lords, who would maintain order over the native peasantry while aiding Miranda in Cadou research. Upon inhabiting the estate, Dimitrescu took over her family's vineyard and wine-distribution business as a means of supporting herself.
Relishing in her reclaimed noble status, Dimitrescu developed extreme caste-based views of society, seeing herself as second only to Miranda herself. She openly loathed the other three house Lords, particularly Karl Heisenberg, whom she frequently argued with. She privately bemoaned that she was not Miranda's favourite, instead being treated the same as all the others. Despite this, Dimitrescu's alliance with the other houses allowed her to rule her castle with barbarous cruelty, regularly taking in new staff to replace those who had been taken to her dungeon to be killed and drained of blood for her sustenance.
Dimitrescu's own experiments with Cadou appear to have been limited, as the only confirmed instance was an experiment begun by Miranda and monitored by Dimitrescu. In this experiment, the corpses of three women were implanted with Cadou parasites. Over the course of about a week, the Cadou produced fly-like organisms which then consumed the flesh of all three bodies. Having assimilated the DNA of these women, the flies merged to mimic their human shapes and slowly adapted their likenesses. Dimitrescu immediately formed a bond with these three women, whom she named Bela, Daniela and Cassandra, and came to regard herself as their mother. They obeyed Dimitrescu without question, and were similar to her in that they were ageless and reliant on vampirism for sustenance. However, they were incapable of withstanding cold temperatures, thus remaining trapped within the confines of Alcina's castle. Over the next seventy years, Dimitrescu and her daughters systematically consumed the flesh and blood of local peasants and servants alike. The blood of maids was extracted and combined with grapes to create Sanguis Virginis (Latin for "Maiden's Blood"), a traditional Dimitrescu family wine. The female victims, now infected with Mold, lived on as Moroaicǎ and Samcă, while male victims were consumed and then hollowed out to be turned into scarecrows for the castle vineyard. Dimitrescu's reign of terror was not without resistance, however, as one villager is known to have stolen a family heirloom - the Dagger of Death's Flowers - in an attempt to assassinate her with its poisoned blade. The attempt failed and he was buried with the dagger in the Tower of Worship to keep it hidden from any others who might seek to harm her.
The Abduction of Rosemary Winters[]
On 9th February 2021, Miranda abducted Rosemary Winters, the infant daughter of Mia and Ethan Winters. Since both Mia and Ethan had been infected with the Mold prior to Rose's conception, their child possessed superhuman traits and proved to be a viable candidate for Miranda's plan to resurrect her daughter. After stealing the baby, Miranda returned to the village and entrusted Lady Dimitrescu with keeping the child safe until she was to be ritualistically mutilated. Each of the Lords was then given possession of a flask containing a different body part of the child, with Dimitrescu being charged with guarding the "Head Flask". With these body parts, Miranda planned to revive the baby with the Mold in order to turn her into a host for her deceased daughter, Eva. As considerable biomass was required to accomplish this feat, Miranda ordered the Four Lords to murder their servants and the villagers. By the end of the morning, anyone who remained in Dimitrescu's employ was brutally slaughtered or turned into a Lycan.
When Ethan Winters came to the village to rescue Rose, he was captured and Miranda and the Four Lords met to discuss what to do with him. Lady Dimitrescu wanted to take Ethan to her castle so that her daughters could feed on him, but Miranda decided to let Heisenberg deal with the interloper, much to Dimitrescu's chagrin. However, Ethan would escape from Heisenberg's death-trap and would make his way to Castle Dimitrescu where Rose was supposedly being kept. Within the castle halls, Ethan was hunted by Bela, Daniela and Cassandra, unable to harm them directly as they could simply turn into swarms of flies and scatter. However, Ethan discovered that the girls were vulnerable to the cold after causing damage to the castle that let in the winter air from outside, forcing his pursuers to remain in human form and allowing him to harm them.
One by one, Ethan managed to kill Lady Dimitrescu's daughters as he explored the castle and obtained the ornate masks he needed to unlock the door leading to the crypt. Lady Dimitrescu was enraged by the death of her "children" and pursued Ethan, intent on taking revenge. She cornered Ethan inside the crypt, but Ethan had opened the casket containing the Dagger of Death's Flowers and used the poisoned blade to stab Alcina in the side. The toxin negated Alcina's regenerative abilities, but she then transformed into her dragon-like form. Ethan fled up to the roof of the castle as Dimitrescu followed, though her huge size in her mutant form made it difficult to catch him. After a heated battle atop the castle's north tower, Ethan was able to kill Dimitrescu by shooting at the humanoid portion of her monstrous form. After receiving the final blow, Dimitrescu cursed Ethan's name as she plunged down to the base of the tower. Her body then began to calcify and ultimately fell to pieces.
Abilities and Traits[]
- Stunted Ageing - Since being infected with the Cadou, Lady Dimitrescu's ageing process has halted, permanently leaving her with the body of an attractive 40-year old woman.
- Superhuman Size and Strength - After her mutation, Lady Dimitrescu grew to 9' 6" in height, towering over normal adult humans. She is strong enough in human form to lift a man off the floor with one hand.
- Claws - Lady Dimitrescu's fingers can extend into long talons, allowing her to slice victims to pieces easily. She used these claws to cut off Ethan Winters' right hand, although he was able to reattach it with the aid of a healing salve.
- Regenerative Healing - Lady Dimitrescu is capable of healing wounds almost instantly, making it seemingly impossible to harm her at all.
- Dragon Form - Lady Dimitrescu can transform into a giant, winged beast similar to a mythical dragon. In this form, she can fly, has heightened endurance and strength, and can control swarms of blowflies that she uses to attack and consume her enemies.
Weaknesses[]
- Dagger of Death's Flowers - This antique blade is coated with a poison capable of harming the otherwise-invincible Lady Dimitrescu. Under the effect of its poison, she loses her regenerative ability.
- Dragon Form - In her dragon-like mutant form, Lady Dimitrescu's weak point is the humanoid portion fused to the dragon's back.
