Abere is a demon from Melanesian mythology and was portrayed as a "wild" woman with young female servants who resided in marshes.

She was believed to lure people to her via seduction, capturing them by causing reeds to grow around them and then proceeded to devour them.

Due to her nature she is similar to many other hags in folklore from across the world, as well as the more malevolent incarnations of the fey (commonly known as fairies in the modern world).

The fact she is often attended to by young female servants also implies certain succubus traits to her but this is not as strong as her parallels with beings like Jenny Greenteeth and other water-hags that would hunt and kill humans, often as a warning against straying into dangerous marshes, rivers and the like.
