Abel Cuvier is a minor villain in Batman Beyond, appearing as the main antagonist of the episode Splicers
Biography[]
Not much is known about Abel's past, but it is known that at some point in his life he had an enormous and excessive fascination with genetic mutations, for which he manufactured mutagenic chemicals called Splicers, which mutated the individual turning him into a hybrid creature between an animal of any species and human. It is thus that he imposed the splicer on himself and his skin color turned pale and he gained the ability to make claws come out of his hands.
His invention gained extreme controversy among the citizens of Gotham, as they did not approve of people getting implants and considered it an illegal act. Batman, learning of this trend, decided to go in search of Cuvier to stop him, but in his crusade he runs into his lackeys, who are already chimeras, against whom he fights. Cuvier meets Batman and implants a splicer in him, transforming him into a bat monster. However, Grayson, who takes on the mantle of Batman, manages to cure himself of his transformation by returning to his normal self and continues to pursue Cuvier. He meets Cuvier's henchmen again but this time defeats them by applying the antidote to them, while Cuvier flees to his secret lair, for which Batman chases after him. After this, he confronts the villain once and for all, but this time Cuvier implanted himself with a couple of doses of the substance, transformed into a chimerical snake-like creature with a humanoid torso. He fights Batman and he injects him with a few more doses of the splice, causing Cuvier's body to mutate abruptly and uncontrollably until it becomes an abominable mass while destroying some cables that release combustible liquid, giving Batman the opportunity to destroy some tanks and start the fire, killing Cuvier in the process and ending his project.
Powers and abilities[]
At first, Cuvier was an extremely brilliant scientist, being an expert in chemistry and biology and applying this knowledge in his invention of the Splicer. After injecting himself with a dose, Cuvier gains inhuman speed and agility as well as claws that he grows out of his hands.
When he injects himself with further doses, he takes the form of a serpent-like creature with a human torso, granting him serpentine features and incredible superhuman strength.
