The 1998 Curien Mansion Case was a criminal investigation carried out by the AMS agency into the activities of genetic scientist, Dr. Curien. This event occurs in the original House of the Dead video game and its upcoming remake.
Overview[]
In 1998, genetic engineer Roy Curien of the DBR Corporation had been carrying out numerous experiments using the BioReactor, a machine designed to edit the DNA of different life-forms. Initially, Curien's work had revolved around curing terminal illnesses, but as the research continued, the good doctor began using his own staff as test subjects. Driven to insanity by his desperation to cure the disease afflicting his son Daniel, Curien sought to break down the barrier between life and death. His experiments with the BioReactor led to the creation of numerous creatures which he would unleash upon his staff, leading to the government agency AMS investigating the Curien Mansion.
The first group of AMS agents sent to the mansion disappeared. Days later, agents Thomas Rogan and G would arrive at the estate to continue the investigation. Upon arrival, the agents discovered the mansion to be in a state of chaos as DBR researchers fled from an army of zombie-like creatures pouring out of the mansion's doors. Rogan and G went about eliminating every zombie and monster they came across, rescuing whoever they could.
Eventually, the two agents made it to the mansion's main laboratory where they confronted Dr. Curien. Curien's intention was to use his creations to destroy human civilization and showed little concern for the agents who had arrived to stop him. The doctor then revealed and activated his latest creation, the Magician, and ordered it to kill Rogan and G. However, the creature turned on Curien and killed him. Rogan and G then fought the Magician and defeated it, but the creature warned them that their ordeal was not yet over before it exploded. With Curien dead and his creations destroyed, the case was brought to a close.
Involved Individuals[]
- Thomas Rogan - An agent of the AMS who took special interest in the Curien case due to the involvement of his fiancée, Sophie. He and his partner G investigated the Curien Mansion to find it overrun with zombies and other creatures. With only their wits and marksmanship skills, the two agents managed to survive the incident.
- G - An agent of the AMS and Rogan's partner. Little is known about him, even his real name is not revealed. He assisted Rogan with settling the mansion incident and has been involved with numerous other events involving bio-engineered creatures since.
- Sophie Richards - A DBR researcher and fiancée to Thomas Rogan. After Dr. Curien began using his staff as guinea pigs in his experiments, she sent word to Rogan and pleaded for his help. While attempting to escape from the mansion, she was captured by the Hangedman. Rogan and G attempted to rescue her, but when they caught up to her, she was seemingly killed by the Chariot. After defeating the Magician, Rogan and G found Sophie still alive as they left the mansion.
- Dr. Roy Curien - Director of DBR and inventor of the BioReactor. Initially driven by a desire to save his terminally-ill son, Curien's obsession saw him spiral into madness as he unleashed an army of genetically-engineered monsters with the intention of destroying all mankind. When confronted by Rogan and G, he commanded the Magician to kill the two agents. The Magician refused to take commands and killed Curien before attacking the agents.
